since when

...are rebelays and knots considered "technical difficulties"?

the imo website today made me want to cry or laugh, i'm not sure which. and why does it come with two non-locking carabiners? for me the longe lunga gets attached straight to the ascender, and locked...

see the ad for GGG cowtails, about halfway down the page. then tell me that when cavers expect newbies to negotiate rebelays on their third cave trip ever, they're just a technical difficulty. ahh, american rope techniques...

Yeah, I totally agree...why would you add TWO NON-locking carabiners to a cowstail. That doesn't make any sense.

well, i won't complain about the non-locking biner on the short part of the cowstail, 'cause we have that and it's cool. that's so when you arrive at a rebelay, you just go *clip* onto it and you're secure. but the long half of the cowstail has a locking biner, because you attach it to your ascender to a) have the ascender attached to your harness and b) not lose the ascender while you're not using it. seems to me the ggg frog system is still designed for rope use w/o rebelays and the like...it's got another way of attaching the ascender to the harness, so the cowstail isn't necessary, while for us it's an essential part of the setup. hrm.
